March 2018
After Lost Dutchman we headed to Dead Horse SP in Cottonwood, AZ. It was unusually cold for this time of year in this particular area. Oddly enough our friends Tim and Glenda were in Camp Verde area. We ended up driving over to have a visit. We actually met them 3 years ago at this very same campground at the same time so we had a good laugh over the timing. We hadn’t been able to meet up with them for various reasons and this was the first time in 3 years. Good visit and we hope that we can connect in 2019.
We had the ambition of hiking to the spot where the Granite Hotshots perished, a relatively new SP hiking area to memorialize these brave men. It was a 2 hour drive and we arrived a little later than we should have and found no parking spots on the mountain. The ranger was very nice and said we could hike for a little while and park in the 10 minute spot. Anyway we hiked to the first granite memorial (Eric Marsh) and back. We both were very winded and that short hike was proof that the entire hike (a 4-5 hour jaunt) would have been much too strenuous for us. Anyway see the movie “Only the Brave”, read about these brave men and their families, it was tremendously moving.
Off to Lake Havasu SP where we met our friends Ron and Alison from Colorado. Always a great time with them in their pontoon boat and our dinners and laughs. They are so nice and easy to be with. Beautiful weather here now as I write this an Spring Break is getting into full swing! We had better think about moseying down the road before it gets too rough! Happy Easter to all!
